When Should I Replace My Garbage Disposal?

Garbage disposals make modern life so convenient. However when they break down things back up fast. Here are three signs you should have a new garbage disposal installed.

1# Loud Noises

Is your garbage disposal making loud noises? If your garbage disposal is making a knocking sound, grinding sound or humming sound it may be on its last lag.

2# No Noise

When you turn on your garbage disposal and it make no noise or a quiet electric hum then you need a new one.

3# Old Age

Most garbage disposals last 5 to 7 years if installed properly. Some of the top of the line disposals last 10 years but after that they start to deteriorate. The blades get dull and the motors burn up. If you have a basic, builder grade disposal like the one in the picture above consider replacing after 5 years.

If you choose to replace your garbage disposal there are a few things to consider. If you plan on frequent and heavy use upgrading to a 3/4 Horsepower model will be a smart choice. (like this client pictured here). If you don't like the loud grinding noise when you use your garbage disposal there are quiet options you can get that hardly make any noise when running!
