Bold Color, Bold Contrast: Inside the DeMaria Bathroom
Bold Color, Bold Contrast: Inside the DeMaria Bathroom

Not every homeowner wants a neutral palette and quiet finishes. For this bathroom remodel, the goal was the opposite: bold color, rich materials, and finishes that play off each other instead of blending in.

Some rooms play it safe. This one didn't.
Rich cherry cabinetry against deep olive walls. Unlacquered brass fixtures against black trim. Every pairing in this bathroom was a deliberate choice, not an accident of "what matched."
That's what separates a bold room from a loud one. When each color and material is picked to work against the ones around it, the contrast reads as a point of view.
The details that make contrast work
Bold doesn't mean chaotic. A strong palette feels intentional when the details behind it are handled with care, and this room is full of them.
The cabinetry has a hand-applied glaze. The brass faucets have scrollwork detail. And the brass itself is unlacquered, which means it's designed to warm and develop a patina with age instead of looking worn.
These are the kind of decisions that let a strong palette feel intentional instead of overwhelming.

A shower and a floor that keep the contrast going
In the walk-in shower, stacked charcoal tile runs floor to ceiling, with a pebble-stone floor underfoot. A glass partition separates the shower from the rest of the room, which keeps the space feeling open rather than closed in.
Back in the main part of the bathroom, a black-and-white basketweave floor adds another layer of contrast to a room that's already full of it.
Remodeling, done the right way
A room like this only works when every material is chosen to work with the ones around it. Tile, stone, hardware, and paint all need to be considered together instead of one at a time. That's the kind of planning that happens before a single cabinet is installed.
